CAC Mission

Who We Are

The Citizens Advisory Committee is an independent group of community members of the Big Hollow School District. Although we work closely with the Big Hollow School District and School Board, we are not officially associated with either.

What Our Mission Is

To help Big Hollow students reach their full potential, the CAC is actively involved in issues affecting students, teachers, and administration. By providing input to the School Board and communicating with and educating members of the community on relevant issues, we strive to make Big Hollow School District the best it can be.

What Our Specific Goals Are

  • Be actively involved in education-related issues
  • Advise and provide input to the School Board
  • Communicate with members of the community
  • Educate the community about relevant issues
  • Work together for the well-being of the students, district and the community

Big Hollow School District Mission

The mission of Big Hollow School is to foster excellence in education so that its students will be able to reach their full potential and enhance their quality of life in an ever-changing society.

Strategic Planning

In November 2003, strategic planning was facilitated by Dawn Miller, Director of Field Services of the Illinois Association of School Boards. Participants representing the board, administrative and certified staff, and the community determined the following five goals (in prioritized order) for the school district to focus on.

  1. Develop and implement a plan to adequately house the increasing student population on a single campus
  2. Continually improve academic performance as measured by standardized tests and teacher assessments
  3. Realize sufficient funding to maintain and improve our educational process
  4. Develop a communication plan to promote school district awareness; involving all stakeholders, community members, senior citizens, parents, staff, students, board members and government officials
  5. Engage and build a community to better support Big Hollow School District #38 to increase awareness of school activities and educate the community on school issues
