Press Coverage

New CAC Subcommittees Formed

The Citizens Advisory Committee has formed two new subcommittees. Community members and parents interested in helping with solutions to the issues facing Big Hollow have been working since the school board made announcements regarding program cuts to aid the school district's financial challenges.

Communication

This subcommittee will work on improving communication and information availability amongst the community, school board, and school district. Their immediate project is to create, refine, and present an alternate plan to the school board for consideration. This plan will need to find expense reductions and/or revenue increases close to the original plan proposed by the school board in early June.

This subcommittee will next meet on Tuesday, June 26 at 7:00pm to continue working on the plan in preparation for a July 9 presentation to the school board. If you would like to get involved, please attend this meeting or click here to send an email.

Legislative

This subcommittee will work on school district related legislation issues, including funding. They have already begun contacting state and federal legislators as voices from their district who are concerned about Big Hollow's financil situation.

Round Lake Approves Townhomes

At the June 20th Round Lake Village Board meeting, the village board approved the construction of 223 townhomes in a Ryland Homes development to be called Emerald Bay. The townhomes will be located near Wilson Rd. & Rt. 120. An estimated 112 additional children will enter Big Hollow schools as the development is built out. Impact fees of $720 for 2 bedroom units and $900 for 3 bedroom units were approved by the village board as part of the annexation agreement. No transition fees were approved.

On July 18, the Round Lake Village Board continued the public hearing on an amended annexation agreement and postponed approval of the annexation, zoning, and plan until the August 1 village board meeting.

On August 1, the Round Lake Village Board again voted in favor of an amended annexation of the land for the Ryland development, despite detailed financial impact analysis being presented by the Big Hollow Superintendent. Zoning and the plan still have not been voted.

On October 17, the Round Lake Village Board completed it's votes approving this development with impact fees in the $720 - $900 range and $0 for transition fees.
